What this site is for

Small Tools Buddy is a directory of free calculators and generators that run in the browser. Each tool answers one job: total a week of shifts, estimate a tip, count words in a file, or draft a starting privacy policy. You do not create an account, and the numbers you type stay on this device. The list above is the whole product. This guide explains how the tools differ so you can open the one that matches the question you actually have.

Ranking pages for “free online calculators” usually mix a search box with a long catalog. The useful part is not the catalog itself. It is knowing which calculator owns which formula. A timesheet and an overtime calculator both mention hours, but one reads clock times and the other reads a weekly total you already have. A cubic-yard calculator and a gravel calculator both mention volume, but only the gravel page turns that volume into tons. Picking the narrower tool keeps the result tied to the inputs you can measure.

How to choose a tool

Start from the input you have, not from the number you hope to see. If you have a start time and an end time, use a timesheet. If you already know that the week was 45 hours, use the overtime calculator. If you have a birth date and want “how old am I,” use the age calculator. If a form asks for chronological age on an assessment date, written as years and months, use the chronological age calculator. The same split applies to documents: pasted text goes to the word counter, a PDF goes to the PDF counter, and a Word file goes to the DOCX counter.

The search box on this page filters the list in your browser. It does not send a query to a server, and it does not create a separate results page. A shared link may include a q parameter, but the page you landed on is still the directory. Google should treat the homepage as this URL, not as a family of filtered copies.

Work hours and payroll math

Payroll questions usually arrive as clock times, not as a single decimal. The timesheet calculator does one shift or a full week. A 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM shift with a 30-minute unpaid break is 8.00 decimal hours. The weekly sheet adds each day, including overnight shifts. An optional hourly rate estimates gross pay before taxes and does not split overtime.

A biweekly pay period is two of those weeks, not one 80-hour block. The biweekly timesheet calculator keeps the weeks separate, because overtime is commonly judged inside a workweek. A 45-hour week followed by a 35-hour week is not the same as two 40-hour weeks, even though both add to 80. The overtime calculator starts after you already know the weekly total. You set the threshold and the multiplier. The page does not decide which threshold applies to your job.

Payroll systems often store time as decimals. Seven hours and 45 minutes is 7.75, not 7.45. The decimal hours calculator converts both directions so a timesheet in hours and minutes can be checked against a decimal entry. Use it when the only question is the conversion, and use the timesheet when the question is still “how long was the shift.”

Dates, birthdays, and age

Date questions split into three tools. The days between dates calculator counts the span from one calendar date to another: elapsed days, an option to include both ends, weekdays, and weeks. It does not care why the dates exist. A project deadline, a rental period, and a countdown all use the same subtraction.

The age calculator is the everyday version of that span when one date is a birthday. It reports years, months, and days, plus a next-birthday countdown and the total in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The chronological age calculator uses the same kind of dates for a different reader: an assessment date, a school form, or a record that wants age written as years and months, including a truncated years;months figure. It is arithmetic. It is not a developmental or medical judgment.

Rooms, volume, and gravel

Home projects fail when area and volume get mixed. Square footage is an area. The square footage calculator handles rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles, then adds a waste percentage and an optional cost per square foot. That is the right page for flooring, paint coverage planning, or a room measured along the floor.

Cubic yards need a depth. The cubic yard calculator multiplies length, width, and depth, then converts among cubic yards, cubic feet, and cubic meters. Use it for mulch, soil, or any fill where the supplier sells by volume. The gravel calculator starts from that volume and continues into weight: tons from a material density, plus waste, compaction, and bag counts. Order gravel from the gravel page. Order a volume of mulch from the cubic-yard page.

Bills, body weight, and calories

The tip calculator has two jobs that restaurants actually ask for. Single mode compares tip percents on one bill. Shared mode splits tip and total by the number of people. It does not decide the “right” percent. It applies the percent you choose.

The BMI calculator and the calorie calculator are estimates, not medical advice. BMI divides weight by height squared and places the result in adult categories, with BMI Prime and the Ponderal Index as extra readings. It does not measure body fat. The calorie page estimates basal metabolic rate and total daily energy expenditure from the equation and activity level you select, then shows maintain, lose, and gain targets. A clinician, not a browser form, interprets those numbers for a person.

Counting words in text and files

Word count depends on where the words live. The word and character counter reads text you type or paste. It reports words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and a reading-time estimate. It cannot see inside a file you have not opened.

The PDF word counter extracts text from a PDF in the browser and counts that extract. Scanned pages that are only images will not yield words until the file actually contains a text layer. The Word document word counter does the same job for .docx files. A .doc binary from older Word is a different format. If the count disagrees with Microsoft Word, the usual cause is headers, footnotes, text boxes, or how hyphenated words are split. Treat the tool as a check of extracted text, not as Word’s own counter. If you already have HTML and the next place wants Markdown, use the HTML to Markdown converter. It reads tags you paste. It does not open a PDF or a Word file. If the file is a text PDF and you want a .md file rather than a count, use the PDF to Markdown converter. It keeps headings, lists, tables, and links from the text layer. It does not read a scan.

Generators for tests and drafts

The random number generator draws integers inside a range you set. You can ask for unique values, allow duplicates, sort the list, or split results into groups. It is a sampler for raffles, test IDs, and classroom examples. It is not a cryptographic key generator.

The US random address generator and the UK random address generator build sample addresses for forms and fixtures. US rows use state, ZIP, and a +1 phone style. UK rows use county, postcode, and a +44 phone style. The lines are fake test data. They are not proof of residence, and they are not for opening accounts, passing identity checks, or misleading anyone.

The app privacy policy generator drafts a privacy policy from the facts you enter: the app name, the data you collect, and the services you use. The app terms generator drafts the contract-style page: acceptable use, accounts, and liability language. Both can emit HTML or Markdown. Both are starting drafts. A lawyer who knows your product and your jurisdictions should review them before you publish.

Domain age and Domain Rating

The domain age checker reports how long the current registration has existed. Paste one domain and the page shows years, months, and days from the WHOIS creation date, plus the registrar and the expiration date. That number is not a ranking score.

The bulk domain authority checker asks a different question. It returns Ahrefs Domain Rating for up to 100 domains. Use it when you want a backlink-strength comparison. Use the age checker when you want the registration date.

What stays on your device

Most of these tools are built so the calculation happens locally. A timesheet, a BMI entry, a pasted essay, and an uploaded PDF are processed in the browser rather than posted to a Small Tools Buddy account. That design is why there is no login. It also has a limit: if you close the tab, unsaved inputs are gone unless the tool itself downloaded a file you chose to keep. Do not put passwords, government ID numbers, or medical records into a practice form just because the page is convenient. The bulk domain authority checker sends the domain list so the server can request Ahrefs Domain Rating. The domain age checker sends one domain so the server can look up the registration date.

Local processing is not the same as a legal promise about every script a browser extension might run on your machine. Use a normal, updated browser. If a tool offers a download, that file is created for you to save. It is not stored as a library of your past calculations on this site.

What these pages will not decide

A calculator applies the formula and the assumptions you can see. It does not know your employment contract, your state’s overtime rule, your doctor’s advice, or your app’s real data practices. When a page mentions a common threshold, such as 40 hours in a week or a BMI range of 18.5 to 24.9, that figure is context for the arithmetic. Confirm anything that affects pay, health, or a published legal page with a qualified person.

The directory is organized so similar tools stay separate on purpose. If two pages look related, read the first paragraph of each. One of them will name the input the other one does not accept. Use that sentence to choose, then run the numbers on the matching page.
